Here’s some great news for your Monday:  Tanya Lieberman -a leader in the breastfeeding blogosphere and a  source of  wisdom and inspiration for so many moms  -will be joining Best for Babes as a regular blogger!

Tanya’s addition to the Best for Babes family is going to give another advantage to moms in the fight against the Booby Traps™-the barriers that prevent them from achieving their personal breastfeeding goals.  We have asked Tanya to focus on identifying, exposing and  providing moms the tools they need to navigate the Booby Traps, breaking them down one-by-one chronologically, beginning with the barriers expecting moms face with their providers before they even have a baby.  She’ll also be doing some podcast interviews with us on the Booby Traps™ in the coming months.

Tanya is passionate about supporting nursing moms, and especially about  eliminating the barriers we face in meeting our breastfeeding goals.  She is a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) who runs the Motherwear Breastfeeding Blog, and produces podcasts for Motherwear, Motherlove, and Dandelion.  She’s helped nursing moms in hospitals, a pediatric office, and through WIC.  She has trained nurses and doulas on breastfeeding support, and she recently authored Spanish for Breastfeeding Support to help lactation consultants support Spanish-speaking moms.  Prior to becoming a lactation consultant she was senior education policy staff to the California legislature and Governor, and was even a UN civilian peacekeeper in the 90’s!

Tanya lives in Massachusetts with her husband, her 7 year old son and her 7 month old baby girl.  She has nursed well into toddlerhood, pumped at work, donated to a milk bank, and is (obviously) nursing her daughter now.  When she’s not working as a lactation consultant, blogging, or carpooling, you can find her and her baby at the Baby Friendly movie showing at her local movie theater, where she watches the movie and her baby watches the illuminated red exit sign.
