Team We’ve Got Your Back, Babe! Krista Cornish Scott Sweats for the Love of Moms and Babies!

Each week during our Team We’ve Got Your Back, Babe! Nationwide Fitness Challenge with Breastfeeding USA in honor of National Breastfeeding Month,  we are profiling an amazing participant and sharing her story of why and how she is boldly going where not many Americans have gone before — stepping up to burn some calories in the name of the breastfeeding cause! Krista Cornish Scott is a Breastfeeding USA counselor, mom of four –including a 2 month old, the leader of Team We’ve Got Your Back, Babe!Cincinnati and she’s on fire!  As a mom that has to sneak in working out around raising four kids she certainly knows that every little bit adds up when it comes to fitness and that time is a precious commodity!  But here’s how Krista sees this Event and this Cause — her choice of words and spirit echoes our deep conviction that the breastfeeding cause deserves the same attention and charitable giving that other popular causes have been given for premature birth, cancer and heart disease!

Let’s just get real for a second: I. Am. Lazy.  I hate running and getting sweaty and all of that. But this is how much I love this cause and this particular fundraising event…. I am going to do it! Even if it means just shuffling towards the finish line with a baby in the sling.

I am asking specifically for low denomination contributions towards my goal. Like me, so many of you have crunched family budgets and I get exhausted by all the many places that ask me for my money. But I’m wondering if you could think of something worth $5 in your life, that you’d be willing to give up for me and for this cause. Just one time.  One big fancy Starbucks coffee. One margarita from Don Pablos. One less long drive out to IKEA in your gas-guzzling old car. ;-)  Could I ask you to fling $5-10 my way? And better yet, do you think you know one other person who might also? I would love it if you could ask them too. (And PS I won’t say no to a BIGGER contribution, but just want to start small and reasonable.)

No wonder she met her $200 fundraising goal in record time!

As for Krista’s fitness routine, she says that she would definitely win the “Most Likely To Complain a Bit But Do It Anyway” Award.  She struggles to prioritize self-care after taking care of her family all day.  Find me a mother that doesn’t have that struggle!  Krista, along with her Team, has planned a “Sling, Stroll, Stride” event in September.

Of the challenge event for Team WGYBB Cincinnati, Krista says “we will gather as families and walk together, including our little ones. We already know how important and powerful it is to model to our children the biological norm of breastfeeding… so it seems like a perfect fit to also remind ourselves to model healthy choices in other ways to our kids. It’s not enough for me to just say to my kids that they need to keep active, I need to be on the front line showing them it is a priority for me, too.”

I asked Krista what she needs to forgo in order to make time for fitness and she had an excellent response. “I’m a mom with a 2 month old baby… most of what I’m doing right now involves nursing and cleaning up the products of said nursing. So instead of forgo-ing, I’m just going to GO. Tuck my baby in the sling and go go go!
