Love the phrases from Lactation organizations. "Each one Teach One" "Best for Moms and Babies" Each successfull breastfeeding mom should "play it Forward"Women are powerful but need the help and encouragement of other women. Until sosiety recognizes the $$$ saved by breastfeeding it will be a struggle. There is Hope. Help each other. pass on positive experiences, share struggles and successful stratagies. We are not ment to do this alone. Next time you encounter a struggling breastfeeding mom.offer encouragement ,tell her how glad you are she's picked the best way to feed her baby refer her to any groups you know that offer guidence and support. I was breastfeeding my baby under a towel at a small, nearly deserted neighborhood pool when an older gentleman approached me. I remember thinking "this is my right" "my baby needs to eat" i was trying to prepare myself for a rude comment. As he got closer I saw kindness in his eyes.He said " I'm a retired pediatrician and I just want you to know what you are doing is invaluable to your child. I wish there were more mothers like you" He smiled and walked away. That was 34 years ago. I am still passionate about breastfeeding today. Remember ANY amount of breastmilk and Breastfeeding is Valuable. Not all babies who recieve bottles and formula are doomed to failure @ the breast.Accecpt what has happened and move forward. Don't blame yourself.Pump and bottle feed your milk until u can find help. Hold your baby skin to skin whenever possible. Get help, not all support groups are "wierd ,way out there, granola crunching fanatics". Find friends who are like you.Support each other. We as women are too hard on ourselves. Give yourself permission not to be an automatic expert. Hold your child against you skin to skin, talk to them ,tell them you are trying, look at thier faces. They will feel your love We are all in this together.

I have come across so many Problems with Breastfeeding from the start. Firstly i had Gestational diabetes and as soon as my first baby was born they put him straight on formula and really made it hard for me to Breastfeed, as my son was in special care for 24 hrs which i understood. After a c - section i had to make my own way downstairs to SCBU to feed him in between formula feeds, which the nurse took control of. As soon as his blood suger levels stablised he was back on the ward with me so i breastfed him from then on but he was so used to the bottle it was so hard for him to be full on the small amount of milk i had coming in.
My second child arrived 17 months later and it was the exact same story. Only she was a less hungry baby id have had the same problems. Your so emotional and week in the first few days after having a baby that you don't have the emotional stand you would have if you had heart surgery.
Im still so mad at how i was treated after both births that i dare not conceive again.
I had my second child in January and every phone number i rang for help and advice on BF fell on no ears. No one was available in the phone book. Marys phone was switched off. Eileen was off sick and Brenda was on a day off. These are Government Health sector jobs. why are there so many of these jobs and actually none are doing anything.
I had to visit my local A and E a few weeks after my daughter was born and had to breast feed in the waiting room as there was only the toilet availble.
I really feel that breast feeding mothers should get more maternity leave. I bet more would breastfeed then and maybe it will be better supported.
Please someone out there do something to help breastfeeding mothers.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this topic, i am so passionate about breastfeeding and wish i could do more in the world of encouraging other moms to breastfeed. This note brought me to tears, as i could feel exactly what you were trying to express.
Keep sharing, keep moving, and keep standing up for Breastfeeding!

I was so there on so many counts 3 months ago. No lactation nursr at the hospital the weekend my baby was born, slow milk coming in, hubby making a bottle of formula (that came from the hospital) because I was so tired and she was so hungry.......All resolved with great support and totally only boobie milk for the last 8 weeks! FOUND A GREAT USE FOR THE FORMULA though! My kittens LOVE it! Fed it all to them, not sure if the humane societies will take it, but give it ia shot if you don't have your own kittens! Even mama cat is starting to get her extra vigor back after nursing her 5 kittens for the last 2 months, a win win for her as she starts to wean them!

What a wonderful post:) I am currently a breastfeeding mom, and I can't tell you how many times I've had people glance at me while I was feeding my child then look away quickly, as though they had caught a "peek" of me they shouldn't have. It's sad that people are embarrassed to see women feed their children. Keep up the fight! :o)
